About

I'm the developer behind Byte Singularity, a small independent studio currently just focused on delivering our first game. I have over a decade of experience in engineering distributed systems and decided it was time to try my hand at game development.

The current project is Portfall, a high-performance 2D MMO about PvP, territory control, raiding, trading, and socializing. You'll be able to ally, raid, build, and fight with skill-based PvP instead of just auto-aim, though we will have missiles too, and they can be dodged.

Why I Am Building This

I've always been interested in gaming, its why I became a software engineer in the first place, but there's always been a reason not to start, and Unity/Unreal always make me lose interest. The tooling is great I'm sure, but I'm an engineer first, writing code, architecting systems and engineering interest me far more, so I've found my niche with Monogame.

What I Write About

The devlog will cover practical development notes, design tradeoffs, playtest progress, and the occasional postmortem when something breaks in a useful way.

Expect topics like:

  • server-authoritative gameplay
  • space combat feel
  • persistence and economy systems
  • private playtest operations
  • indie studio tooling
